Mohawks Shut Out Pioneers To Win Second-Straight NYCBL Championship

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Kyle Koeneman (Louisiana State) went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored and Abram Williams (Radford) pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning as the Amsterdam Mohawks defeated the Elmira Pioneers, 4-0, to clinch their second-straight New York Collegiate Baseball League championship with a victory in Game 2 of the best-of-three NYCBL Championship Series. Amsterdam swept the series, 2-0, to clinch its’ fifth overall league title.

Mohawks Win Opening Game of Championship Series

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – Cody Kulp (Shippensburg) set a New York Collegiate Baseball League single-game playoff record with eight runs batted in and the Amsterdam Mohawks pounded out 17 runs on 22 hits to defeat the Elmira Pioneers, 17-0, in game one of the 2010 NYCBL Championship Series on Friday night at Shuttleworth Park. Amsterdam leads the best-of-three series, 1-0, and can clinch its’ second-straight league championship with a victory in either game two or game three on Saturday. Game two will be played at Elmira’s Dunn Field on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 6:05 p.m. If a winner-take-all game three is necessary, it will be played 20 to 30 minutes following the completion of game two.
