The 2010 Major League Baseball amateur entry draft featured the second-highest draft class of New York Collegiate Baseball League athletes in the over 30-year history of the league. Thirty-six players with ties to the league were selected and over the last two years, 79 former players have been drafted by Major League clubs. This year’s draft class is second all-time in league history behind 2009’s record-breaking class of 43 players.

Nineteen players with ties to the New York Collegiate Baseball League were selected on day two of the Major League Baseball first-year player draft. The 18 were chosen between rounds two and 30. The draft concludes on Wednesday with rounds 31 through 50. Fans can follow the progress of any NYCBL selections at http://www.twitter.com/nycbl_baseball.

The New York Collegiate Baseball League would like to announce that every regular season and playoff game during the 2010 season can be heard live on the Internet. For the fifth year in a row, the NYCBL has partnered with TRZ Sports and TEAMLINE to bring fans live streamed baseball action over their computers. Every pitch, hit, ball and strike will be available via the Free TEAMLINE internet service.

Summer college baseball attracts players of all kinds and all skill levels to teams across the country. Leagues at every level are represented from NCAA Division I to Division III and NAIA to NJCAA. The Ivy League has been well represented in the New York Collegiate Baseball League as Dartmouth’s Joe Sclafani and Ryan Smith and Brown’s Matt Colantonio won a league championship last summer with the Amsterdam Mohawks and former Rochester Royal Henry Perkins (’06) was the 2008 Ivy League Player of the Year. The NYCBL’s Geneva Red Wings have reached into the Ivy League to sign Harvard University’s Marcus Way, a standout utility man for the Crimson.

Clearwater Threshers pitcher Austin Hyatt (Amsterdam ’06) has been selected to compete in the 2010 Florida State League All-Star Game. The rosters were announced by the Advanced-A circuit on May 28. Clearwater is the Florida State League affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
